Quick Airtime FAQ
When Does My Validity Period Start?
The validity period for your airtime starts when you call or email us to activate your airtime, and the activation goes through, not when you purchase the airtime. We ship SIM cards unactivated for security purposes, so you do need to call or email us to request activation before you can use your airtime.
How Long Does Activation Take?
Typically, activation takes only a matter of a couple of hours (or less), but sometimes there are delays in Inmarsat’s system and activation can take up to 48 hours. Just to be on the safe side, we recommend requesting activation 48 hours prior to when you will actually need the airtime, just in case there are some delays in the system.
Note: In order to activate, we must have a completed copy of the FleetBroadband Terminal and Vessel Info Form.
How Can I Add More Minutes To My Airtime or Extend My Validity Period?
Adding more minutes to your airtime is very easy. Simply call or email us requesting more minutes be added to your SIM card and, as long as we have a valid credit card on file for you, we can easily add more minutes to your SIM card.
If My Minutes Expire and I Need More Airtime, Do I Need a New SIM Card?
If you reach the end of your validity period, you will lose your minutes. You can add more minutes to your Inmarsat SIM card whenever you need: Inmarsat SIM cards do not ever expire.
Fleet One “Home Region” Coverage Map
The coverage area for Fleet One airtime is very important. On the following map, the green areas indicate “Home Region” airtime. Data does not work in the “Out of Region” areas.
Fleet One “Out Of Region” Coverage Map
When not in the “home region” for Fleet One airtime, you will fall into the general Inmarsat coverage map. The coverage area for Inmarsat airtime encompasses a large portion of the earth. Inmarsat’s satellites are geo-stationary above the earth’s equator and offer good coverage up to 70° latitude. Because the satellites are stationed above the equator, you may need to position your satellite phone’s antenna in the direction of the satellite from your location in order to get a signal.
